Safe Bicycle Routes for LA Schools
This blog is a resource for all those who feel the need to creat safe bicycle access to schools in the LA County. School districts galore, here we want to raise a small army of bicycle warriors, exchanging notes, advice, best practive, news and the success stories we all want to hear.
The blog is losely associated with the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition LACBC, in that some of its contributors are active in the coalition, and it may draw, when appropriate, on the experience of the bicycle coalition.

California Safe Routes to School is administered by Caltrans and encourages walking and bicycling to and from school in grades K through 12 by increasing safety and decreasing traffic congestion around schools. Caltrans administers both a State and a Federal funding program.
Funds may be used for infrastructure improvements (capital improvements) and/or non-infrastructure improvements (e.g. education and enforcement) projects.
The purpose of the workshop is to explain what comprehensive Safe Routes to School programs are, and how to prepare a successful grant application.
Topics will include the funding application process, suggested strategies, and example projects.
If you have any questions, please contact Dale Benson at (213) 897-2934.
